Holy Trinity Church, The Friends of Washington Old Hall and Washington History Society are hosting an exhibition, in the Church, of the Art of the Rev. Canon Cyril Lomax, between Monday 3 October and Tuesday 11 October. Cyril was rector at Washington between 1899 and 1945, and a prolific artist all his life. We have examples of his sketches at school and university, including cartoon adverts for Beecham Pills!, decorated envelopes, watercolours and illustrated correspondence, especially his letters from the Somme during his service with the Durham Light Infantry during WW1.
We would like your help in assisting visitors and keeping an eye on the exhibits for as little or as long as you can spare during the opening hours of 11am to 4pm or 1pm to 4pm. A full briefing will be given beforehand.
