Whilst this work is taking place outside the Parish it has the potential to cause considerable issues with the normal traffic flow for the duration of the works from Monday 21 June 2021 to the planned completion in early November 2021.
Further information is available from the Contractor by either by phone or e-mail alerts by following the instructions at the end of the Press Release.
Connect Plus Services works on behalf of Highways England to manage, operate and maintain the M25 and its linking roads, as well as the Dartford-Thurrock River Crossing.
Essential maintenance work taking place from Monday 21 June 2021 to the bridge which carries the M25 over Hawley Road, south of M25 Junction 2. We’ll be repairing sections of concrete and renewing bridge bearings which will allow traffic to continue seamlessly across the structure. The work will extend the bridge’s lifespan and reduce the number of maintenance repairs and related closures in the near future. Work is scheduled to be complete by early November 2021.
Most of the work will be carried out during the day between 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, though weekend working may occasionally be required between 8am and 5pm on a Saturday, and 8am and 4pm on a Sunday. To keep the public and our teams safe during the works, we will need to erect scaffolding and install 24/7 lane closures beneath the structure on Hawley Road. The southbound carriageway on Hawley Road will be closed first while we complete work on the east abutment, after which the lane closure will be moved over to the northbound carriageway to enable work on the west abutment to be completed. A two-way traffic light system will be in place which will be manually controlled in peak hours to help manage traffic demand and reduce any delays.
We will need to temporarily jack the bridge up to access and replace the bearings. To enable the bridge to be lifted and lowered safely, a section of Hawley Road and the M25 in both directions between junctions 2 and 3, will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am from Friday 30 July for two nights, and Monday 23 August for a further two nights. Diversions will be in place and signs will be regularly checked.
𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀
A clearly signed diversion for M25 clockwise traffic will be in place via the M25 Junction 2 Darenth Interchange and the A2 eastbound to M2 Junction 2, the A228 southbound to M20 Junction 4, to follow the M20 westbound to re-join the M25 at Junction 3.
A clearly signed diversion for M25 anti-clockwise traffic will be in place via M25 Junction 3 and the M20 eastbound to M20 Junction 4, The A228 northbound to M2 Junction 2, to follow the M2 and A2 westbound towards the M25 Junction 2 Darenth Interchange.
Clearly signed diversions for Hawley Road traffic will be in place via the A225 Hawley Road, Princes Road, B260 Green Street Green Road, Darenth Hill, and Parsonage Lane.
𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Weight restrictions for abnormal loads vehicles greater than 80 tonnes will be in place throughout August due to temporary supports on the bridge. Signs will be in place to inform heavy vehicles on how to proceed when travelling over the bridge.
We’ve planned our work so that noisier activities will be carried out within daytime hours and overnight closures shouldn’t coincide with any other major events. The nature of the hydro-demolition work used to remove sections of older concrete will create some dust, but the area will be enclosed to ensure it is contained and minimised.
If you need to travel while these works are taking place, we recommend that you plan ahead and allow more time for your journey. We have carefully planned and coordinated our works, but there may be some changes in the event of adverse weather, or other unplanned events.
If you have any questions about this work please contact the Highways England Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000, available 24 hours a day.
