101 Up
Malmesbury Bowls and Social Club
It is the end of the season and this is the 101st article on the website.
This weekend we have the popular friendly match at Hungerford and the Captain v President "grudge" match to finish the season and close the green.
The weather forecast is good so your intrepid website editor has put the kybosh on the day by publishing the forecast now.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kybosh - something that serves as a check or stop —usually used in the phrase put the kybosh on
The most likely explanation for "kybosh" is that it comes from the Gaelic "cie bias" meaning "cap of death", the mask worn by the executioner at the block or the black cap of the judge when delivering the death sentence. Dickens in 1836 uses the form "kye-bosk", which suggests that he heard it as two words and so supports an Irish origin. The word was popularised in the First World War song: Belgium Put the Kybosh on the Kaiser
