The Club had a very enjoyable tour of the Exmouth region over the period 3/8/2018 to 6/8/2018. Thirty Nine members and guests left Evington about 9.15 a.m. on August 3rd aboard a Woods coach for the trip to Exmouth. Their driver was Richard who proved to be a very amiable and able driver. The coach was of high quality with extra legroom. The coach arrived at the Manor hotel about 4 p.m. where the party was greeted by the hotel manageress, Alison. The hotel gave value for money and had very helpful staff.

The first match on Saturday August 4th was at Chudleigh where our hosts were very friendly. The home team was augmented by a number of guest players and proved to be too strong for the Evington team. The result was a defeat 87-134. The non-players in the party had an enjoyable visit to The House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey.

Another match with very friendly opposition was played on Sunday August 5th against Tiverton who again augmented their team with two rinks of guest players. Once again the opposition proved too strong for Evington who lost by 46 shots. On this occasion the non-players were able to take a barge trip on a canal near the bowls club.

The party left Exmouth on Monday August 6th to travel home. The first stop was at Sheppys' cider producing farm and members showed some reluctance to move on. However the next match at Taunton beckoned. Their green is in Vivary Park which members thought was a very beautiful park. Once again our hosts were a pleasure to meet. One member thought this was the best club he had visited. Althought the match was closer than the first two Evington lost, the score being 87-101. After the game the party was treated to a two course meal by our hosts. The party then continued their journey home to Leicester.

As is usual on our tour the players in the best performing rink, which this time was a level score, receive voucher prizes. This rink was made up of Norma Thurman, Peter Allen, John Chambers and George Vernon. The booby prize of a small bar of chocolate was awarded to "they who shall be nameless".

The Club is very grateful to Roy Thurman who organised the tour with his usual efficiency with the coach, the hotel, the matches, and the trips for the non-players all proving to very enjoyable.
