The club 2019-2020 singles competitions were held on Saturday 15th February.

Twelve players entered, with six ladies and six gents taking part. Both sections were evenly split, with three players from the Kops squad, and three from the Robbers.

The event was played on a "round robin" basis for each group, with each player facing all of the others over 7 ends with 3 woods each.

Results were varied - all six ladies were involved in a drawn game, while a number of matches were wins by 10 shots or more... including a few "whitewashings"! All heavy losses were taken in good spirit, with the losers always congratulating the victors on their good play.

The ladies competition saw two unbeaten players meet in the final round. Both Del Way and Cathy Gaffney had 7 points from three wins and one draw. Former champion Del had a slight advantage with a better shot difference, but the players did not know this as they had chosen not to be informed of the standings before their game.

After six ends Del led 5-4, so the whole competition was to be decided on the final end! Cathy got the required shots to win 7-5, and clinch the ladies title.

The mens competition was not so close! Peter Hawkins dominated throughout, winning all five of his matches for a maximum 10 points to finish a champion for the 4th time.

His closest rivals were Stuart Clayton and Rob Williams on 6 points each, with both having won 3 and lost 2. Stuart finished as runner-up, with a better shot difference than 3rd placed Rob.

The Supreme Singles Champion match was played between Cathy and Peter. With both players taking a three in the first two ends a close high scoring game seemed likely, but things settled down and after 6 ends Peter led by three shots at 7-4. With a maximum needed to force an extra end, Cathy had to take risks, and ultimately Peter added three shots to finish with a 10-4 win.

As Acting Chairman, Stuart Clayton presented the prizes to our worthy winners. Well done to them both!
