Congratulations to our Ladies' Fours, comprising Mary Varndell, Sue Dixon, Janie Vickers and Ruth Bown, who this evening at Aldershot Underwood, qualified for the County Last Eights at Banister Park. Playing against a Cove rink skipped by Donna Taylor, Oakley held a narrow 7-6 lead after 5 ends and with Cove failing to score over the next 5 ends this lead increased to 13-6 at 10 ends. By 15 ends Oakley had moved into a seemingly commanding lead of 21-9 and at 18 ends with Oakley leading 24-10 Cove conceded the game. At Southampton on Sunday, Oakley will be joined by Whitchurch who put out the holders from Cove skipped by Allyson Flint.

Whilst all this excitement at Aldershot was happening, Oakley Men were trying to make progress in the County Club Championship in a game against Liphook BC played at Malshanger. With home advantage, Oakley were favourites to win this game but at 5 ends the lead was only 6 shots and by 10 ends still only 14 shots. Over the next 5 ends however the rinks skipped by Fred Norris and Ted Brown racked up big scores and at 15 ends the lead had increased to 34 shots and by 18 ends it was 41 shots. It was then only a matter of time before Liphook conceded the game.

Oakley Scores(at 18 ends); Martin Smith, Malcolm Grime, Duncan Wilkins and Stan Mond 15-14, Ashley Nethercliffe, Graham Tompkins, Bob Goodyear and Fred Norris 28-6, Terry Heath,Barry Lee, Trevor Wearn and Ted Brown 26-14, Ric Newson. Sean Lassman, Dave Harrison and Spencer Kerley 18-12
