When I was a small boy in Burghwallis the oldest man I knew was a Mr Brough who lived I think next door to my grandma Ada Dimon at the top end of Grange Lane. Mr Brough was a real Victorian, a veteran of the Boer War 1899 -1902. His stories seemed to come from another very different world, 60 years ago
