ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I began working for R E Thompson in September 2014, primarily under the role of marketing. Despite not having an engineering background, I've learnt huge amounts about the industry, ranging from inspection, deburring, automated machining, CNC milling & turning, Gundrilling and much more.

At R E Thompson we pride ourselves in being a forward thinking company, and are continuously investing in the future. We’ve been working with DMG Mori for 8 months in order to design a tailor-made package solution just for R E Thompson, in the form of 4 brand-new machines. These will allow us to:

  • Continue driving down our hourly rate

  • Offer our customers a continual supply of higher quality products

  • Offer greater design, quality and production capabilities

  • Meet cost-down and delivery targets

Last month we reported installing a brand new DMG Mori NTX1000, which is now up and running! The NTX1000 is a twin-spindle CNC lathe with a 5-axis vertical milling capability, an automatic tool-changer and a bottom turret to allow machining on both spindles simultaneously

We’ve also invested in 3 brand new DMG Mori NMV3000s!

These state-of-the-art machines are incredibly high-spec with a 144 pallet changer and an advanced 320 tool changer. With 5 axes and 5 side machining, complex work pieces of up to 300kg can be produced in just one setting, and coupled with also allowing for turning, this can result in us quadrupling our capacity

Both of these machines are automated to enable un-manned running for 24 hours per day, and are designed to be flexible in terms of batch size and style of component. This is the first of what we hope to be many big steps in 2015 at R E Thompson; onwards and upwards!
