Sadly, despite escalations and representations to Milton Keynes City Council Highways Department regarding the safe use of the Turvey Road / A422 / Astwood Main Road junction, peoples' worst fears became fact on Saturday morning when there was a major collision at that junction. Fortunately the outcome was not as serious as could have been the case; most of the people involved were shocked and shaken. The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa van, however, was transported to hospital for evaluation.

The Parish Council has (yet again) written to Milton Keynes City Council (Highways Department) seeking a risk assessment of this section of road in particular, but with a wider consideration of the A422 between Astwood (Bedford end) and the Hardmead entrance off of the A422. The Parish Council has requested an update before its next meeting on 17th December 2026.

When the accident occurred, residents of Astwood swiftly moved to help, contacting the emergency services and notifying residents of the village (through the WhatsApp group). Many people turned out to provide first-aid and reassurance (thank you, Ali Blakemore!), and clearing debris and managing the traffic (Steve and Jamie). The Village Hall team (Pauline, AnnMarie, Emma and Marie) offered help, quickly opening the Village Hall and delivering warm drinks, coffee and assistance where needed (the emergency services were particularly grateful for the coffee and biccies!).
