A5 Drainage works UPDATE
Stowe Nine Churches Parish Council
Please find below an update regarding the A5 drainage works.
The scheme is expected to be completed late January (this is a bit later than originally programmed). We will stand-down over the Christmas break - stopping next Thursday 21st December 2017 and returning Wednesday 3rd January 2018. We will continue to work during off-peak hours (using a mixture of day and night shifts), with works still being carried out under 2-way traffic lights to reduce impact on the travelling public.
The bulk of our work may not be fully visible from the road, but much of it is on a very steep and densely wooded embankment adjacent to the road. Both the weather and ground conditions are proving quite challenging, though our Construction Team is making progress with the work.
As a matter of interest, you may have heard on the news that we found a suspected WWII bomb whilst excavating for the drainage system. As a precautionary measure, the road was temporarily closed whilst the Police and RAF’s bomb disposal team were in attendance. It was opened up again once it was safe to do so. The object turned out just to be a training round and was taken away to be disposed of.
I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for any disruption and thank everyone again for their patience.
Kind regards, Ed Byrne Scheme Project Manager Highways England, East Midlands Asset Delivery
