A500 Basford Railway Bridge: Update on Emergency Bridge Joint Repairs
Message from Cheshire East:
Following further investigation and consultation with our specialist bridge repair contractor, we need to update the programme for the emergency bridge joint repairs. The complexity of the repair works, together with the required curing times of the repair materials, means that the works will now need to be undertaken under a series of night-time carriageway closures rather than the arrangements previously communicated.
The revised programme is as follows:
Westbound Carriageway
- Full overnight closures from 20:00 to 05:00
- 14 September to 18 September (four consecutive nights)
- The westbound carriageway will be fully reopened following the completion of the night works on 18 September.
- During daytime hours, traffic management will revert to a lane closure to maintain safety around the work area.
Eastbound Carriageway
- Full overnight closures from 20:00 to 05:00
- The first eastbound closure will take place on the night of 18 September.
- To minimise disruption to road users and avoid weekend working, no overnight closures will take place between 19 and 20 September.
- The remaining three overnight closures will then be undertaken between 21 and 24 September.
- The eastbound carriageway will be fully reopened following completion of the works on 24 September.
- During daytime hours, traffic management will revert to a lane closure to maintain safety around the work area.
We appreciate that these additional overnight closures may cause some inconvenience. However, this approach is necessary to ensure the repairs are completed safely, achieve the required quality standards, and provide a durable solution.
Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place during all overnight closures, and we will continue to work closely with our contractor to minimise disruption wherever possible.
