As part a pledge to improve whole of society resilience in the UK Government Resilience Framework, the government has announced the launch of nationwide emergency alert on mobile phones, due to be tested on Sunday 23rd April at 3pm.

This alert system will prove useful in the event of weather-related emergencies, and the test is being marked as a key opportunity to ensure the system works on a nationwide scale.

The scheduled test has also been flagged as a possible risk for domestic abuse survivors who keep secret, lifeline phones for protection.

Refuge has released a video advising what to do in this situation, recommending that these phones are turned off or set to airplane mode at this time in order to maintain their secrecy as silent mode will not prevent it.
