Oakley members, visiting the green over the next few months, should not be concerned if they spot two apparently alien creatures. They are harmless. With Keith Turnbull, no longer able to continuing with his spraying duties, it was necessary for the Club to find an alternative way to do this essential work. These days spraying cannot be done by just anyone. Government legislation requires that those spraying the green and looking after chemicals have to have training and a qualification. Failure to follow the rules could lead to a fine for the Club of £50,000 so Bob Goodyear and Ric Newson have, over the last two weeks been undertaking the necessary training at Sparsholt College. They were required to undertake courses on the "Safe Use of Pesticides" and on "Pesticide Hand Held Application" and were on Thursday required to have an assessment/examination of their knowledge and skills. Both were successful and have been awarded the City and Guilds NPTC Certificate of Competence. The Club's thanks and congratulations go to both of them. The picture shows Bob and RIc decked out in their PPE.
