Alternative Fuel Payment (apply before 31st May 2023)
Alternative Fuel Payment - apply before May 31st if you haven't received it automatically.
If you use alternative fuels to heat your main home, such as biomass or heating oil, the government will give you a £200 payment to help with your energy bills. This is called the ‘Alternative Fuel Payment’.
In most cases this will have been applied automatically to your electricity account by your supplier back in February, but as there is no central database to show which households are connected to mains gas or not, some households may have been missed.
If you haven't automatically received your Alternative Fuel Payment through your electricity supplier you should apply via the Gov.uk website here before 31st May 2023.
You will need:
- an email address or phone number (if you have one)
- your bank account details
- proof that you’ve spent £200 on alternative fuels to heat your home since September 2022 (for example, a delivery note or receipt)
You can upload up to 10 receipts for alternative fuel, as long as they add up to at least £200, and as long as they are dated September 2022 or later, but they can be for different types of fuel.
Your proof of purchase must include:
- your address
- the type of fuel purchased
- date of purchase
- name and address of fuel supplier
- total amount spent.
If you're not registered for Council Tax then you will also need to upload proof of your address e.g. driving licence or tenancy agreement.
If you cannot apply online, call the Gov.uk helpline, and make sure you apply before May 31st 2023.
