The Purpose

In common with other Parishes and Boroughs natural or man- made events affect us in many different guises e.g. snow, ice, fires, storms, winds, pandemics which in turn can create emergencies such as road closures, floods, tree damage to properties, loss of electricity Wi-Fi and telephones, and medical emergencies. Such events are predicted to become more common as weather patterns change. These events are infrequent but can create considerable interruption to normal life and even greater risks for the elderly and vulnerable in our community. It is often slow and difficult to take action to minimise the effects. A Resilience Plan is about planning in advance what action to take and by whom to create a fast and effective response. There is some very useful information within the Resilience Plan.

The Proposal

The Parish Council has agreed to create a Resilience Plan and are in the process of creating an initial draft. However, we would like input from as many members of the Parish as possible because it is a tool aimed at helping everyone in the community and ultimately, we want all householders to know who to go to in an emergency and where to obtain help in the fastest possible way.

The draft of the Resilience Plan has now reached the stage where we can release it to people for them to read and hopefully volunteer to be part of a sub-committee to support the Resilience Plan.

The Action

You can obtain a copy of the draft plan by email to sallyb@amportparishcouncil.org.uk. We ask you to read it and input any ideas that you have for how to improve it or if you think it is missing other emergencies bring it to our attention. Please be constructive and offer solutions as well. If you know people or organisations who have the skills or expertise to help in an emergency of any form let us know. When we feel it is complete, we will package it up and make it available to as many in the community as we can
