As members set out today for the Club's Christmas Lunch at Test Valley Golf Club it was raining hard but we had been spared the bad weather affecting areas north of the Thames Valley corridor. We had our own problems. The first mini bus to leave Oakley found the road from Overton blocked by a fallen tree so everyone had to take a long detour to reach the club, only, on arrival, to find there was no power. With no lighting, no heating and power unlikely to be restored before 6pm it was decided time and the light would not allow us to have a full meal but the Club's catering staff, working in a darkened kitchen, performed marvels and presented us with an excellent Christmas Lunch which, under candlelight, everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Mince pies and coffee followed and around 3.45 pm, well fed and watered, and after a vote of thanks from President Peter to the organiser Past President Mary Varndell we set off for home with everyone in the festive mood and looking forward to our return to Test Valley for the Club Presentation Dinner on the 2nd February.
