Monday 24 June 2019 – 10am – Grounds of Oakham Castle
The Ministry of Defence is again encouraging councils, businesses and homes across the country to show their support for our Armed Forces by flying a special flag celebrating Armed Forces Day. This has become an annual event following the success of the first ever national Armed Forces Day in 2009. Armed Forces Day this year will be on Saturday 29th 2019. If you wish to find out more about the celebrations, there is a website with full information at www.armedforcesday.org.uk.
Hundreds of Councils have pledged to raise the Armed Forces Day Flag at 10.30am on Monday 24 June 2019 to officially commence a week of celebrations in honour of our Armed Forces. HM Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness PhD would be delighted if a representative from your Parish is able to join us for this event.
Please arrive at Oakham Castle at 10am to enable us to gather before the short ceremony starts at 10.20am. Armed Forces representatives are invited to wear dress uniform with medals. Unfortunately, no reception will be held on this occasion.
Only those in possession of a Blue Badge will be permitted to park in the Castle Grounds.
Please email khaworth@rutland.gov.uk by 14th June to confirm your attendance.
We do hope you will be able to join us in support of our armed forces.
Yours sincerely
Kate Haworth
Deputy Clerk to the Lieutenancy
