This weekend saw Ashley Nethercliffe attending the England Junior Academy at Leamington Spa. There, he and 7 other under 18 boys and 8 girls were put through their paces by a galaxy of international and world champions including Tony Allcock, Andy Thompson, Mary Price and Jane Christie. It was for the youngsters a long weekend - even on their return on Saturday evening to the hotel they were subjected, after dinner, to Sessions on the Laws of the sport! - but they all seemed to enjoy the opportunity to learn from the "Stars" and acquitted themselves well in the skills exercises to which they were subjected throughout the weekend. The standard of bowling was of a very high level and Ashley was delighted at the end to be presented with vouchers recognising he had finished as the second best boy in the skills tests. The England selectors now have the difficult task of selecting which of the 16 players present at Leamington will be called up for the Under 18 Test match later in the summer
