ASHLEY INTO ANOTHER AREA FINAL

This evening at Malshanger, Ashley Nethercliffe faced a stiff challenge as he took on Cove's Leo May seeking a place in the Northern Area Finals of the County Two wood Singles. It was Leo, the 2019 County semi-finalist in the event who scored a single on the first end but after 4 ends the players were tied at 3-3. Ashley then moved out to a 9-5 lead after 9 ends only for Leo to hit back with a two and close the gap to two shots with a maximum of 11 ends remaining. A run of four successive winning ends saw Ashley move out to an 8 shot lead with just 7 ends remaining and with only a possible 14 shots left on offer it was going to be hard for Leo to make up the deficit and the match finished after the 19th end with Ashley holding an unassailable 17-11 lead. The Club's best wishes will be with Ashley when he plays the Area Final on July 7th against either David Sims of Alton or Andrew Blight of Aldershot Underwood.
