August update
Communities Against Noise and Speed
Over the last 8 to 12 weeks members of the CANs committee have been working to raise the profile of the cause and engage with the relevant parties who can influence the negative situation of noise and speed in our local area. In this period, we have met with Michael Lane, Police & Crime Commissioner, where he appeared engaged and encouraged us to work with partners across various authorities to tackle the issues.
There has also been contact with the South Downs National Park Authority, and whilst they are in contact with Hampshire County Council, at the highest level with regard to highways within The National Park, it is not clear how actively they are involved in finding a resolution.
The next two major milestones are; a meeting in September with George Hollingbery MP where we hope to engage his ministerial influence to raise the issues in a wide forum, push for increased enforcement cameras and campaign to raise the penalties for offenders to make this antisocial behaviour increasingly expensive. And we will be meeting with five of the local County Councillors to further push the cause and gain their alignment and support.
