Autumn Crime Prevention

As the evenings get darker and we head further into autumn, now is a good time to take a few simple steps to keep yourself, your family, and your property safe.

🏠 Home Security

· Lock doors and windows whenever you leave the house, even for a short time.

· Use outdoor lighting or timer switches to make your property look occupied.

· Secure sheds, garages, bicycles and tools, as these are often targeted during the darker months.

🚗 Vehicle Crime Prevention

· Remove valuables from your vehicle or keep them out of sight.

· Double-check that your vehicle is locked.

· Consider parking in well-lit areas where possible.

🎃 Halloween & Bonfire Night

· Parents are encouraged to know where their children are and who they are with.

· Respect neighbours and local communities by avoiding anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, and misuse of fireworks.

· Report any concerns about unsafe use of fireworks or persistent anti-social behaviour.

🚶 Personal Safety

· Plan routes in well-lit areas where possible.

· Let someone know your plans if travelling alone at night.

· Report suspicious behaviour or criminal activity when you see it.

📞 In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency incidents or information, contact Thames Valley Police via 101 or report online.

Together, we can help keep Oxford's communities safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone this autumn.
