Banister Park Open Youth Tournament 2018
On March 4th fourteen players aged between 16 and 19 years of age gathered at Banister Park IBC, Southampton for the inaugural tournament. The competition was organised by Maxeen Fletcher, the Hampshire and Southern Region EBYDS co-ordinator, and sponsored by Ashley North the immediate past president of Banister Park. The players were from Dorset, Hampshire and Surrey. In 2 groups of 7, each individual playing 6 games of 3 woods 7 ends spread over a morning and early afternoon. After those games the top 2 in each group progressed to a semi-final. Austin Coleman of Hampshire was drawn against Ashley Nethercliffe also of Hampshire, and in the other semi-final Andrew Orme of Surrey was drawn against Ryan Nash of Dorset. With scores of 8-5 and 7-2 Austin Coleman and Andrew Orme progressed to the final, which after an exciting game was won by Andrew Orme, 5-2. The bowling on the day was of the highest calibre and a joy to watch. Thanks go to all the markers and umpires.
The 2 losing semi-finalists were presented with cheques of £15 each, and trophies and cheques to the finalists of £50 and £30, by Ashley North the sponsor.
It is proposed that the competition will be an annual event with the age group possibly raised to under 21, due to demand from the players.
