What would I do?
- The Council is controlled by Acts of Parliament and we can only do what we have been given a specific power to do by Statute.
- We have a wide range of direct responsibilities including: allotments, street lighting, recreation areas and the cemetery.
- We comment on services provided by the County and District Councils. In particular we comment on all planning applications and related matters within the Town Council area.
- The Clerk implements these decisions and provides independent, objective and professional advice, information and administrative support.
- Each year we set a budget for the Council's activities. The bulk of this is normally funded through the local element of the Council Tax known as the precept.
- Councillor training is available on a wide range of topics.
When?
- Meetings are Tuesday evenings at 7.30 p.m. currently via Zoom due to COVID 19
- All Councillors attend Full Council meetings on the third Tuesday of each month.
- The Council then has 4 committees – Environment, External Relations & Town Development, Finance & General Purposes and Planning & Transportation.
- Councillors choose each year which Committees to be members of. These Committees meet bi-monthly (apart from Planning & Transportation who meet monthly on the second Tuesday of each month).
There are also opportunities to join in with social events such as the Battle in Bloom Awards and other Council functions.
