Despite a slightly keen breeze over 30 members attended the club’s first ‘BBQ & Natter Evening’ on Saturday, 18th May. The BBQ was flashed up at 6.30pm and soon the aroma of beef burgers, sausages and chicken filled the air around the clubhouse. Being intrepid bowlers members chose to sit outside the clubhouse for most of the evening but come 8.30pm those remaining sensibly retired indoors to be nearer the bar. This very informal evening saw members bringing a variety of suppers, some of which were shared with other members, supported by frequent trips to the bar, all of which ensured plenty of nattering took place. During the evening Malcolm Clements kindly shared his birthday cake, served to the assembled gathering by his grand son and youngest club member Owen. Being an informal occasion members came and went at various times throughout the evening, with the end of the football cup final seeing the evening’s last arrivals. Best joke of the evening came from Malcolm with his ‘wooden eye’ story, whilst much banter occurred with the Club President being challenged, all in good humour of course, about this season’s increase in the price of ‘tea and a biscuit’. Overall a very successful evening resulting in further ‘BBQ & Natter Evenings’ now being planned for Saturday’s 8th June, 13th July and 24th August, the last of which will follow the club’s finals afternoon. Further details will be provided on the club’s notice board in due course.
