Bee-friendly gardening tips for summer โ๏ธโ
โ๏ธโโ Dead-head plants regularly
Removing fading flower heads throughout summer encourages many plants to produce more flowers - which means more food for bumblebees! Generally you should cut at the point where the stem joins the main plant (or where fresh growth is already showing).
๐งโ Keep plants watered in hot, dry weather
This will help plants to keep producing nectar for bumblebees! Use a watering can to pour directly on the base of the stems, so you don't soak the leaves/flowers and disturb bumblebees who are feeding. Early morning or late evening is best to reduce water loss from evaporation.
๐ธโ Collect seeds for next year
Let some flower heads go to seed, then collect and store them in a labelled paper bag. Sowing your own seeds the following spring is a great way to grow more plants for 'free'! You could also give some away to family and friends to help them Bee the Change in their own gardens.
