We know long‑standing residents are already familiar with this, but with new people moving in all the time it’s worth giving a gentle reminder.

The bin stores have separate bins for food waste, glass bottles and jars, paper and card, tin cans and plastics, small garden waste, and non‑recyclable rubbish.

These stores are for normal household waste only. Anything considered bulky waste cannot be left there, as the council will not collect it.

A few options for getting rid of bulky items:

• If you drive, Basildon Council runs “The Crunch” — a free bulky‑waste action day held at various pop‑up locations across the borough. You can drop off large household items such as mattresses, sofas and electricals at no cost.
• If you don’t drive, the council offers a bulky‑waste collection service. It’s £30 for up to five items, and you can book it online here:
