Boomtown's new planning application has appeared on the portal today.

As expected, it is a S73 application seeking to amend the end date of Condition 1 and 2 of SDNP/24/05303/FUL to extend the 1-year permission by 5 years to 2030 with numbers of days and people remaining unchanged.

It is described as a minor material amendment but there are 166 documents supplied including some updates and supplements to previous documents.

The SDNPA intends to place it before the Planning Committee on 9th April 2026.

The Parish Council's initial comments are listed as follows.

SDNP/25/04953/CND: Variation of Condition 1 and 2 of SDNP/24/05303/FUL to extend the 1-year permission by 5 years to 2030.

Matterley Farm Alresford Road Ovington Hampshire SO24 0HU

The Parish Council is happy that the SDNPA will determine this application via a call-in direction as follows:

“The proposal seeks a variation of condition to a previously called-in planning permission which was for the change of use of land from agriculture to mixed agriculture and holding of one music festival event to occur once a calendar year. Retention of wooden structures within woodland area, use of additional access points on A31, A272 and Rodfield Lane, all associated with festival use on the Matterley Estate.

The SDNPA proposes to the handle the application itself for reasons of consistency and due to the scale and nature of the development given the need to balance considerations regarding any impacts on the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area against any opportunities that the proposed development may bring for understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities by the public.”

The Parish Council sincerely hopes that there is a proper consideration of the impacts that the festival will have on the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area.

The Parish Council is also keen to support Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s comments in response to the application as it affects all of the temporary buildings on site.
