On a gorgeous, sunny Sunday, Ashby Bowls Club joined with other sports groups as part of the Ashby Sports Fun Day, a free community event on 28/06/26 aimed at raising awareness of the many ways people can get moving, and offering the opportunity to try a range of physical activities whilst engaging with local sports clubs. The annual event is supported by North West Leicestershire District Council to promote health and well-being, and Ashby Bowls Club had a tremendous day. Ashby's Bowls England accredited coach, Lloyd Taylor set out a fantastic range of bowling activities, with targets and games for young and old. He also arranged rinks for anyone who wanted to try the game of bowls, which gave club members, who had generously volunteered their time, the opportunity to show people the beautiful game!

We had 145 individuals of all ages come into the club grounds, and 99% of them had a go at Bowls. Everyone left smiling and saying how much they’d enjoyed being with us, what a friendly club we are, how they hadn’t realised what a great and interesting sport bowls is; they were all really impressed with our coach, and all were glad they came to our event. We even welcomed our Mayor and his team of councillors who joined in the fun. We hope to see him again!

For 6 hours a very busy, and by the end of the day, very tired and weary group of club members who had helped everyone who came to have a go at the activities, were able to relax. What an AMAZING effort, and hopefully the membership forms that were requested and given out, will soon be returned. Certainly we had a good number who wanted to return to our Fun Fridays and Monday evening roll ups. And as an update, we have already had some people from the Open Day come to our Fun Friday sessions, so Welcome to you. The pictures catch a glimpse earlier in the day, before we had queues of people waiting to have a go!
