Bus Services Survey Results Published
Nuthurst Parish Council is pleased to publish the results of the Bus Services Survey commissioned to better understand the transport needs of residents across the parish.
The research, undertaken by Action in Rural Sussex on behalf of the Parish Council, was commissioned following concerns raised about local bus services and the need to better understand how residents travel, where they need to go, and whether existing services are meeting local needs.
The study objectively assessed the current scale and nature of demand for bus services within the parish. It examined household transport requirements, including the purpose, destination and frequency of journeys, and identified areas where residents' transport needs are not currently being met.
The findings provide valuable evidence on residents' preferences and requirements for future transport provision. In particular, the survey explored local demand for:
- Improved bus services to and from the parish
- A community minibus service
- More regular services through Maplehurst and Monks Gate
- Transport options that help reduce social isolation
- Measures that could help alleviate traffic congestion
The survey was commissioned following a resolution of Nuthurst Parish Council at its meeting on 17 September 2025. The survey design, content and distribution were developed in consultation with the Council and formally approved following discussions at Parish Council meetings during the project.
The results will help inform the Parish Council's ongoing discussions with transport providers, local authorities and other stakeholders as it seeks to improve transport options for residents and ensure that future decisions are supported by clear evidence of local need.
