There were mixed fortunes for Oakley teams at the weekend. On Friday evening, the men, in the National Two Fink competition had a comfortable 55-16 victory over Liphhook with Steve Devonish, Nigel Bechelet, Sean Lassman and Bob Goodyear triumphing 38-5 and Malcom Grime, Gerald Norris, Spencer Kerley and Graham Tompkins winning 17-11.

Saturday afternoon, however, was a different story. The Tony Allcock trophy match, for players over 60, against Old Basing, played on a very wet green, was a close encounter with the lead regularly changing hands but it was Old Basing that finally came out on top winning 33-27. Oakley scores: Mary Varndell, Shirley Ball, Spencer Kerley and Graham Tompkins lost 9-20 whilst Sue Dixon, Gerald Norris, Janie Vickers and Bob Goodyear won 18-13.

Sunday morning saw us playing the National Men's Top Club competition against Fleet United, This resulted in a 4-1 win for Oakley but the match was marred by the Fleet triples skip falling on the green and having to be taken by ambulance to hospital. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery. Oakley scores: Steve Devonish lost 12-13, Bob Goodyear won 21- 9. The other disciplines were conceded by Fleet with Ted Trantum and Sean Lassman winning 15-7; Martin Smith, Jim Dixon, winning 13-7 and John Yarrall, Malcolm Grime and Spencer Kerley tied at 3-3..
