Wanted – Volunteers and Guests for New Contact the Elderly Tea Party Group in Shrewsbury!

Contact the Elderly is a charity dedicated to running tea party groups are for isolated older guests aged 75 and over, who live alone (including in sheltered accommodation). Guests are collected by the same volunteer driver each month and taken to Sunday afternoon tea in a volunteer host’s home. The group of guests and drivers are the same each month, which means that over time some lovely friendships develop, and new support networks are formed. The service is completely free, groups are overseen by a volunteer coordinator, and all drivers are DBS and reference checked, as well as being briefed on our health and safety and safeguarding procedures.

We are hoping to launch the first of our groups in Shrewsbury in the next few months, and are in real need of a few more volunteer hosts and drivers, and a few more older guests, before we can start the group. The tea party groups meet once a month on a Sunday and are formed of 6-8 isolated older guests, with 3-4 volunteer drivers, who visit a different host’s house each month. Driving is a once a month commitment, with reserve drivers to cover absences and hosting is usually once or twice a year. The tea parties are great fun and make a real difference to the lives of the older guests that attend them. I have attached some further information and you can find the application form here - http://www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk/become-a-volunteer

Also, if you know of anyone who would benefit please do get in touch and I can send some leaflets, or you can refer people here www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk/guest with their permission, or print out invites here http://www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk/i-know-someone-who-would-benefit.
