Chalgrove Brook

As we are sure you will have noticed, the Brook is suffering in the current drought, with water levels exceptionally low. CFAG, who normally work to prevent flooding, are now working to ensure we keep water in both the Chalgrove Brook and the High Street Brook. With permission from the Environment Agency, the bifurcation flow has been altered to reduce some of the water going to the High Street Brook, to maintain some flow to the main Chalgrove Brook and prevent it drying out.

Please can we ask that no-one alter the temporary alteration while the dry weather continues; we will monitor water levels daily.

If anyone sees either stretch drying to the point where there is no flow at all, please let us know.

Please also be aware that while the water levels are so low, any pollution will be concentrated, so please be extra careful if working with anything that should not go into the river (and remember that most road drains connect directly to the Brook).

Finally, we know that riparian owners are able to abstract water to a limited extent from the Brook; with the water levels so low we'd like to ask you to pause any abstraction until the levels recover.
