This evening Oakley's "A" team travelled to Whitchurch needing to take two points from their last game to ensure that, no matter what Alton Social did, Oakley would be the Basingstoke and District Division 1 Champions for the second time in three years. The team was somewhat anxious given that in 2015 it had thrown away the title when needing only a half point from the final game. Tonight, however, there were to be no mistakes. The rinks skipped by Ted Brown and Fred Norris surged into comfortable leads and by half way, even though Spencer Kerley's rink was losing narrowly to the top Whitchurch rink skipped by Ian Hayward, Oakley had a 20 shot aggregate lead. This was pulled back by Whitchurch over the third quarter but Oakley came again to wrap up a 4-1 win and land the title. Congratulations to all the members who took part in what was a hugely successful campaign, given that after the first three games Oakley were bottom of the league with just 2.5 points out of a possible 13. From then on Oakley went undefeated for 13 successive games and ended as worthy Champions
