One in three people aged over 65, and over half of people aged 80 and over, experience at least one fall each year.

Cheshire East Council (in conjunction with the Cheshire East Falls Prevention Group and One You Cheshire East) is organising a falls awareness week for 15th November 2021. The aim of this week is to improve knowledge of the issue of falls and the steps that can be taken to reduce risk, particularly for older people.

As part of this, free taster falls prevention classes are being run by One You Cheshire East in Congleton, Disley and Nantwich during the week of the 15th November. Additionally, we are also promoting pre-existing One You Cheshire East ‘Stand Strong’ classes which people can join at a wide variety of locations such as Sandbach, Crewe, Macclesfield, Wilmslow and Congleton. See www.oneyoucheshireeast.org/stand-strong/ for further information.

All these sessions are aimed at people aged 65+ and are free (admission to classes is subject to an assessment).

Online information on how to prevent falls is viewable at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/livewell/health-matters/keeping-well/falls-prevention/ . This includes simple measures like checking for trip hazards at home, staying active and going for regular eye checks.
