The Parish Council was as concerned and disappointed as residents of Joydens Wood were over the decimation of the trees on or adjacent to the Chestnut Grove Open Space.
The Parish Council was not responsible for the work nor gave permission for it to be undertaken.
The Parish Council accepts that some of the trees were not under the stewardship of the Council as they were growing behind a low wall marking the boundary of the Open Space, with the land being either a 'ransom strip' left following the building of the Chestnut Grove houses or within the cutilage of a neighbouring property. The majority of the work was however carried out on trees, including young Cob and Walnut trees, that were clearly within the Open Space and, as a result, were subject to annual Surveys commissioned by the Parish Council to check their health and to ensure that they gave no cause of concern for the safety of users of the Open Space
The Parish Council will be considering whether further action will be taken and whether a 5-Year Planting Scheme will be adopted to replace the trees that were felled thereby ensuring that Chestnut GROVE lives up to its name.
