CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON 2025
Thank you to each and every one of you who attended last night's Christmas lights switch-on event. It was wonderful to see so many friendly faces turning out to celebrate the start of the festive season.
On behalf of the village, we would like to sincerely thank the Mortley Group, Kcee Mortley, & Dean Pappin for not only purchasing the tree but also spending a large proportion of their day on Saturday constructing the stand, reinforcing the base plate, and mounting the tree before finally decorating it. We are very proud of our beautiful (and enormous!) tree, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.
Unfortunately, despite our best-laid plans, the Christmas tractors were unable to attend (due to the length of time the tree took to install the day before), and our local DJ was unexpectedly called into work; nevertheless, the Grinch showed up, and we were able to play lots of Christmas music and get into the Christmas spirit.
Regretfully, we were made aware that the lights that were wrapped around the tree next to the car park's entry appeared to have been purposefully damaged, despite our working group's hard efforts the day before, where they had voluntarily spent a large proportion of their day helping to prepare the car park.
Sadly, because of the damage, we will now need to invest time and money in disassembling these lights and replacing them in time for next year. Funds which we had not accounted for.
In view of this, may we kindly remind residents to advise their children not to play with either the Christmas lights or switches, as we want to be able to harness the Christmas spirit? It would be a shame for a selected few residents to spoil it for everyone else.
