Wellington Bowling Club’s Open Day last weekend proved spectacularly successful when the club was almost overwhelmed by the number of people who turned up to try their hand at the game.

Coaches, Fran Hughes Martin Speakman and Richard Manning were kept very busy throughout the day, both inside and outside, but the end result was worth it: fourteen new bowlers now begin their six-week coaching course entitling them to become full playing members.

Many club members came down to help out on the day which made it a special occasion for the newcomers who were made very welcome by everyone at the club.

Wellington Bowling Club has been able to improve its buildings and facilities – including new LED lighting in the indoor rink and disabled access – as a result of grants from Viridor and TDBC. The club paid tribute to Wellington Councillor and newly appointed Mayor for Taunton Deane, Vivienne Stock-Williams, who has been “hugely supportive of the club” and who attended the Open Day. Club Chairman Geoff Stamp and Secretary Brian Wombwell thanked Vivienne for all her support. They also wished to thank the many local people who signed the petition last year to strengthen the club’s application for financial help.

For those could not make it to the Open Day it is not too late. Visit the club any Monday or Friday evening at 6.30 pm and the club coaches will be pleased to welcome you to the game.
