On Saturday 7th of September we held the finals of our internal competitions. Unfortunatley due to ill health the Ladies final had to be forfited by Carol Hammond; so Maggie Burnell gained the title by default and therefore took the title of Ladies champion which entitled her to play the mens champion in the champion of champions play off. Maggie played Ian Turner in the open handicap final in the morning but after putting up a spirited fight, she succumed to Ian's experience and lost to him; Ian therefore is now the open-handicap champion.

The mens final was between Mike Turner and Neil Burnell; this game was played in the morning and although it was played in a friendly manner the competitive spirit won and Neil came out on top, thus giving him the chance to play his wife Maggie in the champion of champions play off after lunch.

After a lunch of hot-dogs and burgers; kindly donated by Stewart Maddocks, Heather farrant and George Reed, the Ladies 2 wood final was played. Margaret Roberts took on Heather Farrant in a match watched closley by the spectators on the balcony. Margaret came out on top and is now the 2 wood champion.

The final game of the day was the Champion of Champions final and this was again watched by an excited audience. There were lots of support as Neil and Maggie battled it out; everyone appreciating some good play and the competitive nature of the game. The winner of this match was Maggie; Neil was a gracious loser and the game ended with a hug and a kiss. Maggie and Neil have assured everyone they are still friends and look forward to next season, where they will hopefully play together in County Competitions. It is believed this is the first time a lady has won the Champion of Champions title- well done Maggie!

On Sunday 8th September Neil was in action again when he and his pairs partner Ian Turner played Frank Connock and Stewart in the men's pairs final. It was good to see Frank in the final as this is his first year of entering. After a very competitive match, Neil and Ian came out on top winning by a close margin after being pushed all the way by Frank and Stewart

Other finals are being played over the coming week.

Congratulations to all the finalists and eventual winners; here's to next seasons competitions where we hope more people will take part.
