Oakley's ladies stormed out of the blocks in last night's County inter club double rink cup match (the Thornbery Trophy) at Alton. After just two ends, Oakley led 8-0 and although Janie Vickers' rink lost a single and Alice Lovett's two, by 5 ends Oakley had moved out to an 18-4 lead. By now Janie's rink were in top gear and an unanswered 9 shots on the next five ends pushed out Oakley's lead to 34-6 at 10 ends. The pressure on Alton continued and, gamely as the home team tried, the scores continued to mount and by 18 ends with Alice's rink leading handsomely and Janie's out of sight, Alton conceded the match. Oakley scores: Shirley Ball, Ruth Bown, Heather Statham and Alice Lovett won 22-8; Mary Varndell, Sue Dixon, Val Ryan and Janie Vickers won 33-7.
