Public Consultation – Swaffham Barn Centre on behalf of Swaffham Town Council

We are writing to inform you about a proposed new community facility in the town of Swaffham and are looking for feedback and comments.

Swaffham Town Council is proposing to purchase and open The Barn Centre, Swaffham, PE37 7LL, for a wide range of community uses. The building was previously used by the Convent of Sacred Heart School for productions, music practice and school classes and activities. The centre is located within walking distance of the town centre.

The building has extensive facilities which the Town Council feel would be a benefit to the town and surrounding area. The building will be unique and could facilitate a variety of events and community clubs in specialised facilities. These existing facilities included an Art Room, Auditorium, Pottery and Kiln Rooms, Music Rooms and an Outdoor Swimming Pool with Changing Rooms. The Town Council believe this facility has significant potential to be used by a range of community clubs and businesses, and to host events which will add to the vibrancy of cultural activities available in the area.

The purpose of this consultation is to gain local opinion on the most effective way for the centre to be used, thus providing the most benefit for Swaffham and the surrounding area. Clubs and events at the centre could possibly include:

  • Coffee/Social Events
  • Exercise Classes
  • Productions (Theatre, Music)
  • Private Hire Pool (for the use of learners or on a ticket system basis for private use, as the pool is limited in size)
  • Music Groups
  • Amateur Dramatics Groups
  • Exhibitions
  • Pottery Clubs
  • Cinema/Film Nights
  • Comedy Nights

We therefore invite you to provide feedback and comment on the proposed new community facility and how you would potentially use it. Please find enclosed a short questionnaire. If you wish to give further comments please contact us at swaffhambarncentre@parkerplanningservices.co.uk . Contact details can also be found on www.swaffhamtowncouncil.gov.uk. The consultation period will run from the 24th of August until the 14th of September 2020.

Alternatively, an online version of the questionnaire can be found online at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/3BXFBLJ
