Residents encouraged to take part in county-wide review.

Northumberland County Council are inviting residents to take part in a review into whether current arrangements for the county's Parish and Town Councils should be changed.

The county-wide Community Governance Review is aimed at ensuring that the electoral arrangements for the 162 town and parish councils are appropriate, equitable and understood.

Changes which could be made include:

  • The creation or dissolution of a Parish / Town Council
  • Separating or altering the boundaries of an existing Parish / Town Council
  • The name of a Parish / Town Council
  • Changes to the electoral arrangements (e.g. changing the number of councillors)
  • Ungrouping or grouping parishes under a Common Parish Council.

Whether you live, work, or have an interest in one of the areas, your opinion is important and will help shape future proposals.

The first stage of the public consultation runs from 1 February to 30 April 2026. Any agreed changes will be implemented for the next scheduled local elections in May 2029.
