On Monday 17th April 2023 police were contacted by a member of the public regarding a dead tawny owl that had been found in fields between Westfield Lane and Carlton Ferry Lane in Collingham. It became obvious that this animal had been shot with a firearm, likely some kind of air weapon. Further enquiries have revealed that this could be linked to youth related anti-social behaviour in the area.

Killing, injuring or taking a wild bird is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and that trespassing with a firearm, even an air weapon, is an offence under the Firearms Act 1968. Officers will be conducting patrols in the area to deter offenders and anyone else involved into anti-social behaviour in Collingham.

Members of the public are urged to contact the police on either 999 or 101 if they suspect any unusual or criminal activity in this area.
