December update

On 5th December 3 members of the CANS committee, Dr Jonathan Moore and Rob Baldock, met with Councillors Rob Humby, Hugh Lumby, Roger Huxstep and Rob Mocatta along with Inspector Andy Tester from the Road Policing Unit and members of the Road Traffic Management Team from Hampshire County Council.

CANS presented a list of proposed actions which we believe the authorities should be taking to try and alleviate the traffic issues we all experience. Some of the actions proposed were:

• A commitment and schedule of when DVSA will complete roadside checks, preferably very frequently, along the A32/A272 to check for illegal/non-compliant motorbikes, particularly focusing on undersized number plates and non-road use exhausts
• Greater enforcement of speeding and traffic offences by increased strategic use of the mobile camera vans on Wednesday evenings and Saturday/Sunday daytime
• The installation of average speed cameras on four stretches of road on the A272 and A32

The councillors and the other representatives of the local authorities understood the situation and also the frustration felt by residents that nothing seems to have happened over the years. They are committed to provide us with some changes, although probably not everything we have asked for, and we will again be chairing a meeting in early 2019 to review the progress they have made with our requested actions.
