DISAPPOINTING END IN AREA FINAL

This evening at Basingstoke Town, Sue Dixon and Ruth Bown played Kay Fyfield and Alice Attwell of Alton Social in the Women's Area Final of the County Pairs. The match began in pouring rain and after 5 ends Oakley had a narrow 3-2 lead. This was increased to 8-5 by10 ends and to 11-6 at 13 ends but the 14th end was critical with Alton Social picking up a four (a big score in 3 bowl pairs) to close within one shot. Spurred on by a three on the next end Social were now in control and, in the shortened 18 end format, they ran out 17-11 winners and will now represent the Northern Area in the County Quarter Finals.
