The last seven days have been disappointing ones for Oakley BC in competitions at local indoor clubs. At Loddon Vale, in the Ambler/Fuller Trophy, having already lost their first game in the Group, the Oakley rink of Bob Goodyear, Sean Lassman, John Ryan and Graham Tompkins raced out to a 18-5 lead at 12 ends against a Basingstoke Town rink. At 16 ends they were still hanging on to an 8 shot lead, only for Bob to be taken ill and be replaced by Martin Smith. It still looked as if Oakley would come out on top but on the final end, they dropped 5 shots and the match was drawn 20-20.

If that result was disappointing, this morning's Moreton Cup game at Longmeadow against Littleton was even more so. Having won their first game in the competition, Oakley were soundly beaten with Malcolm Grime, Sean Lassman, Fred Norris and Graham Tompkins losing 15-20 and John Yarrall, John Ryan, Martin Vickers and Bob Goodyear losing 10-20. Oakley's hopes of progressing in either competition now look extremely slim.
