The final of the Moreton Cup took place today and, sadly, it's not good news: Andover Lions were beaten by Oakley, who have won all their six matches this year and were thus worthy winners of the competition.
Lions got off to a very slow start and fell heavily behind on both rinks before staging a rally and making a decent game of it. However, the teams were unable to reduce the deficit, turning out eventually on the wrong end of a 22-42 final scoreline. Oakley were simply the better team on the day - congratulations to them.
The Andover Lions rinks on the day were: Dave Godfrey, Chris Hewitt, Dave Bradbury and Ray Cozze; and Jenny Guy, Linda Sturt, Mick Corden and Tony Guy - bad luck, everyone, but, at the same time, well done to you all on taking an Andover team deeper into this competition than any of our teams has gone before. If not this year then, having tasted what it's like to be in the final, perhas next year will be your year.
The prize money for finishing second - the same place occupied this year by the Hamblin Trophy team and the John Ash Trophy team - will, nevertheless, provide a further, and very welcome, boost to Club funds.
