This morning at Howard Park, Terry Heath, Ric Newson and Ted Brown set out to prove that age is no barrier to success in bowls by attempting for the second time in just over 24 hours to lift a Basingstoke and District title. Having won the Two Wood Triples in 2012, 2013 and 2014 but tasting defeat in this final for the last two years, the team were desperate not to achieve a hat trick of losses. Initially things looked far from promising as Oakley trailed opponents, Basingstoke Town, 2-4 after 5 ends. By 10 ends, Oakley had moved into a 10-8 lead. They could not, however, shake off the Town and the game remained tight with Oakley hanging on to a 1 shot lead at 15 ends and 2 shots at 18. The next two ends saw Oakley gain a net 2 shots so the last end was simply a case of having to match Town's bowls to ensure they could not snatch a four. This was done successfully and Oakley triumphed 19-18. Congratulations to all three players on their 4th title in 6 years.
