UPDATE ON DITTON EDGE

The Parish Council recently received an invitation from Savills [the agent dealing with the sale of the land] to meet with them and the preferred Developer to give the Council an update on the current situation and what is proposed for the site in terms of submitting a full planning application. As you are probably aware, outline consent was approved to build up to 300 dwellings on the site last April, despite great local opposition.

As we know that this development will go ahead, the best we can now do is to engage with the developer to hopefully have local views taken on board and to ensure that as the development proceeds, the developer is considerate of the local community already in Ditton.

The Council accepted the invitation and has met with representatives from St Modwen Homes, who we learned, at the meeting, has purchased the site and will be submitting a full application by the end of this month.

The Council was able to put across concerns raised about traffic, impact on the village, construction traffic and loss of green land etc. St Modwen Homes said they understood the initial objections and concerns about the site. They outlined a plan of proposed housing that was not too dissimilar from the outline application previously submitted and approved but with some good adjustments including a reasonable distribution of types of housing [maisonettes, 2, 3 & 4 bedroom homes] and social housing plus over and above the recommended number parking spaces for the number of properties. There will also be a good amount of open space and play facilities.

St Modwen Homes have agreed that they will hold public presentation sessions at the Community Centre to enable all local residents that are interested to come and look at the proposed development and ask any questions and voice any concerns they may have. As soon as dates for these presentation sessions are confirmed, we will publicise them on our Social Media, on noticeboards and in the Ditton Gazette.
