In a well-timed gap between some very wet days, the Club’s Drawn Pairs Competition took place in lovely sunny weather on Sunday 20th June, signalling another step on the road back to “normality” after the absence of any such competitions in the lockdowns of 2020.

16 pairs took part in the morning group stages, the four group winners proceeding to some very closely fought semi-finals, both of which were decided by one shot. Sheila Gentry and Maurice Phillips secured a final end victory over Kim Francis-Ellis and David Hempstead whilst Martin Ellis and Ian Knowlton staged a dramatic recovery from six shots down with two ends to play to snatch victory from Rob Dawkins and Brian Knight.

As if all this drama wasn’t enough, the final also went down to the wire with Sheila and Maurice holding off a last end challenge to deservedly claim the trophy.

Well done to all who took part and to Competition Secretary Dennis Wren for organising a very smoothly run day that actually kept to time! Thanks also to the ladies running the kitchen and bar, it was really good to see such an event running at the club again, hopefully the first of many.
