East Durham Action Group members have been prolific in action to ban battery energy storage systems in the East Durham area. The group attended the Durham County Council Planning Committee Meeting on Wednesday 8th July 2026. Their Facebook Page stated that "after 15 months of research, hard work, meetings liaising with councillors, professors and residents, we are overjoyed to say that today, at Durham County Hall, the BESS site proposal at Carrs Farm, South Hetton was denied ... we would like to extend a massive thank you to South Hetton parish councillor Gillian Rogers, Hawthorn parish councillor Sheila Irving, County Councillor Mark Rowney and EDAG Members".
